On April 17, 2025, at Tupei Building room 314, the Institute of Finance and Economics research, the Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) hosted a successful seminar on "Microdata Applications in Economic Research." The seminar, delivered by Assistant Professor Hu Qian, attracted students, researchers, and academics eager to explore the use of microdata in economic research.
Assistant Professor Hu's engaging presentation provided a deep dive into the concept of microdata and its growing importance in economic studies. The seminar addressed several key topics, including the types of microdata, common databases, and their applications in understanding individual and enterprise-level economic behavior. The professor highlighted the increasing use of microdata, from survey and administrative data to emerging areas like text and image data, emphasizing the potential for cross-field and interdisciplinary research.

Attendees learned how microdata can provide richer insights compared to macro data, allowing researchers to explore finer mechanisms and causal relationships within economic behaviors. The seminar also featured a detailed discussion on real-world applications, such as studying China's unique savings rate and the impact of competitive savings on the nation's economy.

The event was well-received, with participants actively engaging in discussions and sharing their perspectives on the future of microdata in economic research. The seminar concluded with Professor Hu's call for more interdisciplinary research, inviting attendees to use microdata in studying issues relevant to their own countries and economic contexts.
The successful seminar marks another milestone for CUFE's Institute of Finance and Economics research in fostering academic exchange and promoting cutting-edge research methodologies.
