Expert Profile: Dr. Hu Qian is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Finance and Economics Research, Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE), specializing in labor economics, development economics, and urban economics. Her research focuses on critical issues in China’s economic transformation, including labor migration, urbanization, and demographic change. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Peking University and a bachelor’s degree from Renmin University of China. Before joining CUFE in 2022, she was a postdoctoral fellow at Peking University.

Dr. Hu has published in leading Chinese academic journals such asManagement World 《管理世界》 and China Economic Quarterly 《经济学(季刊)》, and also has several working papers exploring the long-term impacts of parental migration and regional economic disparities. Additionally, she is the project leader of National Social Science Foundation of China, Beijing Municipal Social Science Foundation and China Postdoctoral Science Foundation.
With experience as a teaching assistant at Peking University for courses in empirical economics and political economy, she is actively engaged in both research and education. Her work provides valuable insights into China’s labor market dynamics and economic development.
