财经研究院留学生工作坊第16期成功举办

The Institute of Finance and Economics Research, The Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) successfully hosted a workshop titled "Energy Poverty in Vietnam: The role of ethnic and gender identity"and “The Effect of Belt Road Initiative on Sino-Pakistan bilateral trade with Partner Countries”on May 14 2025. The event held in Room 314 of the Tupei Building, featured a compelling presentation by Le Ngoc Lien Huong (黎玉莲香)and Majid Ali(阿里)

During the workshop, Huong presented the findings of her research on the effect household head’sgender and ethnicity on energy poverty in Vietnam. Using multilevel regression model,her research focused on how gender and ethnicity as well as the intersection between them, control for some socio-demographic factors affects energy poverty in Vietnam. The audience gained insights about the overall of energy poverty and the case of Vietnam, the role that gender and ethnicity plays in shaping energy access. While Majid Ali shared the results of his research about how the Belt Road Initiative affects the Sino-Pakistan trade, specifically the bilateral trade of China and Pakistan with their trade partner under the initiative. Using panel regression analysis, which includes Robust Random Effects, Panel Corrected Standard Errors (PCSE), and Poisson Pseudo Maximum Likelihood (PPML), he emphasized the significant effect of the BRI on the bilateral trade between China, Pakistan, and their trade partners. His presentation highlighted the importance of policy coordination and institutional reform in addressing challenges associated with the BRI that may affect Sino-Pakistan trade. He pointed out the need for strategic policy interventions, including revisiting the BRI framework, harmonizing trade policies, enhancing infrastructure development, and strengthening institutional frameworks.

Distinguished attendees, including Associate Professor Zhao Guoqin and Associate Professor Yan Haosheng, actively engaged in the discussion. Both professors provided numerous valuable suggestions that are expected to enhance the quality of Majid and Huong's research papers. Their input covered various aspects, from refining the analytical approach to strengthening the background of the research, which will no doubt contribute to a more in-depth and comprehensive understanding.

The workshop series is an important part of the education for international students at the Institute of Finance and Economics Research, playing a key role in enhancing their academic quality and research skills.
