The Institute of Finance and Economics Research successfully hosted a workshop titled "Impact of Nuclear Threat on Trade: How Iran’s Nuclear Ambitions Reshaped Global and Regional Commerce" on April 28, 2025.The event, held in Room 314 of the Tupei Building, featured a compelling presentation by Rizwan Akhtar Jamsheed (James王伟)
During the workshop, Jamsheed presented the findings of his research on the impact of nuclear threats on international trade, with a specific focus on Iran. Using the Synthetic Control Method (SCM), he explored how nuclear threats affect trade volumes, patterns, and relations. The audience gained insights into how the nuclear threat affects Iran's total trade, oil-sector exports, and ammunition trade. Furthermore, he showed the findings regarding Iran's bilateral trade with the G7 and neighboring countries, and how Iran's trade pattern shifts due to the nuclear threat.

Distinguished attendees, including Professor Cao Mingxing, Dean of the Institute, and Associate Professor Yan Haosheng, actively engaged in the discussion. Both professors provided numerous valuable suggestions that are expected to enhance the quality of Jamsheed's research paper. Their input covered various aspects, from refining the analytical approach to strengthening the argumentation, which will no doubt contribute to a more in-depth and comprehensive understanding of the complex relationship between nuclear threats and international trade.

The workshop series is an important part of the education for international students at the Institute of Finance and Economics Research, playing a key role in enhancing their academic quality and research skills.
