The Institute of Finance and Economics at the Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) hosted a highly insightful workshop titled “Rethinking Public Debt and Central Banking Policies for Inclusive and Sustainable Development in Asia-Pacific” on March 26, 2025. The event, held in Room 314, Tupei Building, featured Mr. LIV Soksan (苏安山), a Ph.D. Candidate in World Economy at CUFE, as the speaker. The workshop attracted students, academics, and professionals keen on understanding the intersection of public debt, central banking, and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.

Mr. LIV Soksan delivered a comprehensive presentation, addressing critical challenges and opportunities in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) amid rising public debt and economic inequality. He emphasized the need to rethink conventional debt sustainability assessments, advocating for an "augmented" approach proposed by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). This approach balances short-term fiscal stability with long-term development goals, ensuring that public debt serves as a tool for sustainable growth rather than a constraint. Professor Guoqin Zhao, Haosheng Yan, and Yeqing Zhang participated in the workshop and provided valuable constructive feedback to the research.

This workshop is part of CUFE’s ongoing efforts to foster academic and professional dialogue on pressing global economic issues. For more information about future events, please contact the Institute of Finance and Economics, CUFE.
